Curriculum Design

Our curriculum is built with one aim in mind, to ensure our pupils are able to achieve to the maximum of their capabilities. We have structured our curriculum in a way that allows our students to experience a variety of academic and vocational subjects.

Our KS3 pupils have access to English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Computing, PSHRE, Art, PE, Outdoor Education as well as Catering and Hospitality, Motor Vehicle Engineering, Construction and Land Based Studies. This breadth of curriculum enables our students to consolidate and progress their knowledge of academic subjects whilst simultaneously experiencing vocational subjects that could potentially become a career path. The KS3 ARE (Age Related Expectations) Scheme of Learnings have been developed to facilitate delivery and assessment of pupils’ Key Performance Indicators throughout year 7,8 and 9. Topics are changed fortnightly to allow progress within mastery to be explicitly achieved and for timely intervention to be put in place in areas of need for specific students.

Our KS4 pupils have a balanced curriculum of academic subjects leading to GCSE qualification in English Language, English Literature, Maths and Biology, as well a having access to Prince’s Trust Level 1 & 2 and three vocational subjects to choose from Catering and Hospitality, Construction, Hair and Beauty, Childcare, Land Based Studies and Motor Vehicle Engineering. Our Scheme of learnings are carefully built through a bespoke spiral curriculum design that allows for the revision of a topic more often in order to enhance pupils’ retention of learning and the maximising of progress in short periods of time.

Pupils of the Academy of Central Bedfordshire are resilient and confident, they enjoy learning and they are always ready for new challenges.
